Two brothers, two offerings

Eve bore Cain, then Abel. Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the ground.

A mark and a wandering

Cain receding into an unfamiliar landscape; leave the mark visually undefined.
Cain feared being killed. God set a protective mark on him, and Cain went away to the land of Nod, east of Eden.

Cities, crafts, and a song

Environmental sequence of tents, stringed instrument and tools; do not assign invented faces to genealogy.
Cain built a city and named it after his son Enoch. His descendants practiced herding, music, and metalwork. The record names Irad, Mehujael, Methushael, Lamech, Adah, Zillah, Jabal, Jubal, Tubal Cain, and Naamah.

Eve bore Seth in place of Abel. Seth later had a son, Enosh. Then people began to call on God’s name.
